After a sweet weekend with my brothers, it’s back to the daily grind. What a weekend it was indeed! While we didn’t necessarily do anything of note, it was just great to see them both and relax with them. It hasn’t really felt like summer due to the fact that I haven’t seen my brothers in a long time. I’m heading back to Cincinnati this coming weekend to have one last Tangvald brother “Hurrah!” in order to celebrate Baldur’s Birthday and send Rainor on off to college.

The coolest window/ledge EVER.

The coolest window (or deck.) EVER.

Unfortunately for myself, I’m up to my eyeballs in work already though. I’m trying to think about what I might be able to do in the coming weeks to try and prepare a little bit for my I.S., but really nothing I have accomplished yet has come across as a complete spark of brilliance in the literary sense. (key word: yet. Hopefully that’ll change.) I’ve had a couple of things I’ve wanted to do this summer that I’ve yet to really accomplish, so hopefully by the end of next week I’ll have finished the following.

  • Finish a damn Resumé.
  • Clean out my car. (Both inside and out.) EDIT: Currently raining. Outside shouldn’t be a problem… for a while at least…
  • Pack my stuff up and get moved into my dorm room for the coming year.
  • Sift through my clothes and get rid of old stuff and things that don’t fit.
  • Find a storage place to drop off some of my book collection.
  • Figure out at minimum 10 Short Story ideas. (For I.S. So far? 2/10)
  • Finish sifting through documentation for I.T.

Hopefully, at least. It seems that with each passing week, I lose more and more time. I hope that next week, I’ll be able to finish my projects and relax a bit more before school starts. Fingers crossed!

Listen, it’s Friday. I know we all have had a past week full of Monday’s, or at least, that’s how it seems to me. That being said, food usually does an excellent job of picking my spirits up in both a literal and figurative sense. Comment and enjoy.

Return of the Monday, Part 3!

I see you!

I see you!

Good morning! Simple question to get this post rolling. Have you, my wonderful reader, ever bitten into a lump of salt that somehow missed the cooking or baking process? I did. My chocolate chip banana bread extravaganza in Lowry has come to a screeching halt, I can tell you that much for starters. The experience alone has crippled me food-wise so suddenly that now I am hesitant to even eat my beloved Lowry blueberry muffins. Oh, such a sad day.

It’s currently raining outside, which is sweet as can be in my mind. We haven’t had rain in a long time, and I personally like the kind that drizzles. Torrents of rain is nice once in a while, but sometimes it’s nice to have a relaxing night with the rain. It’s also super nice because it’s easy on the eyes. Literally. Rain makes seeing things much easier for me. That being said, I’m off to more meetings, but I’ll leave you with a good ole’ picture of adorable to satisfy you until I post delicious things later. Enjoy!

He just wants to love you. That's all.

Because let’s get real here, I could never get a hang of Tuesdays.

From zero to awake in two seconds!

From zero to awake in two seconds!

This morning has started in a very peculiar manner. Not only did I wake up 20 full minutes before my alarm went off, I discovered I was practically blind when I woke up. (I had inadvertently forgotten to take out my contacts before I hit the hay, not fun.) On my little jaunt home, while feeling refreshed (and even slightly renewed.) from a good nights rest, scooted back over to my house, took a prompt shower, and decided to head off to work. Normal start to my day? Right? Yep, sounds good so far. After heading to breakfast to enjoy my morning ‘adult’ cereal (If your confused about this, check  in my previous posts. Children poking and prodding me on my choice of cereal, ridiculous.) of Raisin Bran, because it is the, I kid you not, healthiest cereal the college offers during the Summer. (grr…) This little side story of my morning is beside my main point.

I arrived at work, and finding two Dell computers sitting on my desk and staring me in the face. In my perplexed state in mind, I touched one to ‘wake it up’, only to find DOS coding scrolling through the screen. (we must have been re-imaging last night.) Seemed find, but in touching the other computer, things did not end up so happily. A loose, but still connected power cord arced a surge electricity through the side of the computer, connecting with my hand. Minor/moderate shock, but it was better than a cup of coffee. That all being said…

Ain't that the truth.

Ain't that the truth.

Bring it on Tuesday, I’d like to see what else you can try and throw at me.

I’ll play ball!

It’s official, I can’t seem to fall asleep. Ever.

Thought Process!

Thought Process!

I tried to go to sleep right after my work out yesterday but it seemed like I just rolled around in my bed instead. Such is life though. I’m currently battling the forces of my unconscious brain to try and perk it up so I can get through my day. I refuse coffee though. I only use that in the most dire of circumstances.

It’s pretty steamy in Wooster today, but that’s not a bad thing in the slightest. I personally revel in warmer climates. I loved visiting Eriq in Arizona. It was hot, but not “Ohio-wicked-steamy” hot at the same time. However, I think that one of the main reasons why I love places like Arizona is because of the sky. Cincinnati, the place where I have grown up for say, the past, 17 years of my life, has some of the nastiest horizons you will ever see. Pollution there is rampant, and the smog from the city makes the sky look a sickly sort of grey/blue. In other words, super gross. One of the various reasons why I will never live in Ohio after College. Fo’ serious.

Summer comes around full circle.

Friday: Harry Potter.

Saturday: Sleep all day.

Tuesday? So soon?

Well, in the progression of the daily work week, we come upon our idle Tuesday. As per Douglas Adams’s writing in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, his character Arthur Dent said it best: “I could never get the hang of Tuesdays.” Apparently, according to my breakfast associates, I look quite tired. You know that feeling where people say you look tired, and you can just feel that your tired in your own eyes. Ok, that may have been confusing, but the fact that I’m tired still remains.

I’ve been commissioned to help launch the new Wooster website by sifting through coding material and finding out which links head back to the College of Wooster main page, so today will be slightly eye-numbing, but exciting.

"Drink meeeee..."

"Drink meeeee..."

Bottom line? I’m sleepy.

So, being the super-dork I am sometimes, I have taken to drifting around Ebay for interesting deals on retro-style video games. What might I have found? Oh, you know, just a little thing called a Game Boy Pocket (Green, mind you.) on Ebay for a dollar.

A SINGLE DOLLAR.

Since a man can only go to the gym and read for so long outside of work, I needed something to keep my hands busy, so I thought to myself “Why not devolve into playing those old Game Boy games? I mean, I loved Tetris, right?” (I also got Jen one, thinking we’d be able to battle each other. Wrong. I didn’t remember I needed a cord to plug them both together. Made me feel super old. PS: I know, I’m a nerd, but leave me be. It’s a sign of affection.)

Anyways, I remember back in the day when these puppies used to run about 75$ and the games were close to 25$. I can get the game for these Game Boys at a price close to 75 cents per pack of 20. Ridiculous? Slightly. I guess it just made me remember how quickly technology changes, as well as how easily things can get replaced now-a-days. Seriously though, only a dollar? I’m going to have to hunt for my old games back home. It’s been quite a long time since these systems have seen the light of day.

It all comes flooding back to me...

It all comes flooding back to me...

Since, for some ungodly reason, I’ve had a copy of Game Boy Camera stuck in my glove compartment in my car, I thought I’d pop it in and see what (if anything) I had on it. Hell, to see if it would have even worked. To my utmost surprise, it actually did have things on it! Pictures of my 6th grade lacrosse coach, Mr. Hamzi (who, if I recall, got ridiculously mad at us while we played. Not really sure why though…) Pictures of Chris Pierce, as well as Jeff when we were probably in like, 6th grade. Along with those pictures, I have some VERY young pictures of Rainor and Baldur. (I mean, come on. I was in 5th/6th grade when I had this thing. Still have no idea what it was doing in my car.) But the hilarity wore thin, and I turned the little device off for a spell.

Talk about a flashback though.

Welcome to another exciting beginning of the week! (I’ve already slept in past my alarm clock.) ARGH, WHY.

OH DEAR GOD THE HUMANITY.

OH DEAR GOD THE HUMANITY.

So, after some thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m going to be creating a collection of short stories for my Senior Independent Study. I thought I’d be doing something more research oriented, such as my original topic of the study of literary monsters such as Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and the evolution of said monsters into modern roles, but since I’ve taken so many fiction classes, I can’t see the point in doing a research paper when all I’ve been doing is creating stories. Creative I.S. it is then, and I’m going to defend it to the death.

Well, here’s what I’ve got so far topic wise.

In regards to recent literature, one of the more popular venues of writing has been aimed towards a more satirical styles. Authors such as Christopher Moore, David Sedaris, and even Tucker Max have created works of fiction that have stemmed from events the authors have experienced in their own lives. I’d like to create short comedy stories that revolve around (and at some point would include.) popular items of pop culture. These particular pop-culture staples range the gambit when one looks back in the past. Icons such as B-rated Zombie Movies, the Ipod, Internet Startups, The Poodle Skirt, Legwarmers, and even the Toaster, are all items that have shaped the world we live in. I intend to shape my own world through the use of these icons, and produce a literary culture in various short stories.

That being said, I’d love your input. What do you think are key items of pop culture within generations? What do you consider to be the most vital?

My kind of day, Friday.
