Life Update!

Wow. Been a long time since I’ve actually had something to write about other than food. I thought I’d give everybody who reads this a good couple of updates. You know, shoot the breeze. The whole bit. School is kicking ass and taking names. I feel like I’m super behind in my work, but Karin (my professor overlooking my project.) tells me so far that I’m doing pretty nicely on my I.S thus far. I’ve even come up with a tentative title! (I’m actually really excited about that, oddly enough.) For all of you that don’t know what I’m working on for my I.S, I’ll give you a quick run down. After taking so many classes in college that are based around fictional writing, as well as creative stories, I thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of this instead of trudging along my original idea of analyzing the history of monsters within literature. (Though that is something I’d like to try and flush out one day.) So, I set my heart on creating a collection of ‘flash fiction.’ If your unfamiliar with flash fiction, well, your not alone. Flash fiction is determined to be stories ranging from 3-8 pages in length, and have been increasingly popular in modern  literary circles of contemporary fiction.

How cool is that?!

One day, when I have a panic button installed in my house, I want these to shoot out of the windows.

Without boring you to absolute death with the details, I’ll explain about my collection a little bit more. In regards to what exactly I’m writing about, my stories are a slight bit more Gothic than the average fair. So far, my favorite stories include a boy’s terrifying first visit to a barber, a mechanic who wants to leave this normal life and head on off to a world of cowboy-induced fantasies, a voyeur who watches others from his telescope and creates elaborate stories about their daily lives, as well as a groom-to-be who becomes stranded on the famed Route 66. Currently, I’m working on my final story for the collection, which is my longest thus far. (I’m aiming for a rough 30-35 pages.) The story centers around a characters portrayal of his collection of scars, and is slightly a reference to a fictionalized portrayal of my own scars. How I got them and what they mean to me, but through the voice of a different character. We’ll see how people like it though. Fingers crossed!

It's coming!

I miss snow, hopefully it'll come soon.

This winter has been the warmest I’ve ever experienced thus far in my lifetime. Or at least I’m pretty sure that’s the case. Currently, it’s been rainy and close to fifty-five degrees IN THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER. That’s pretty messed up if you ask me. Don’t get me wrong, I love warm weather, but I really do enjoy snow. I’m pretty sure I’m just built for winter weather through those wonderful Norwegian genetics I’ve got. We’ve only really had one real snow shower thus far this year, and that was still pretty weak. Nothing stuck, and I’m just lying in wait for December to plop some seriously heavy snow on us all at once. I imagine that sound would be something close to a “PAH-LUmph.” if that were to actually happen. Did you know that if something close to two feet of snow were to literally drop from the sky all at once, it would level entire buildings? Crazy.

Maybe I like winter just because of the fireplaces.

That all being said, I’m gearing up for a Thanksgiving Food Frenzy Friday! I’ve got a plethora of recipes I need to log into my books, and I’m sure to be posting a good collection of delicious favorites. I’m going to be better in the coming weeks about updating, so keep checking back from time to time! (Either if you want to check in on the old Odin, or just want to see some delicious food.) I’m going to be experimenting this break on particular food-oriented presents for my fellow food enthusiasts here in Wooster, so be sure to check in and see how those turn out. (I’m thinking Eggnog flavored cheesecake with a gingerbread crust. What do you think?)
