Life and Food Porn.

Ok, so today was an interesting kind of Thursday. I’m sure you all are enthralled to hear about my life, but I’m still going to explain a little bit. I ran out of most of my sandwich groceries today. By sandwich groceries, I mean most of my vegetables and cheese. While I’ve got some Ramen, canned soup, macaroni and cheese, cold cuts and spaghetti left in my fridge, I feel the urge to still go out and purchase more sandwich goods. Maybe it’s just the fact that I like to make sandwiches when I’m lazy, maybe it’s because I love sandwiches so dearly, but I cannot see myself putting simply a slice of cheese and a slice of meat between two pieces of bread. That seems so…lame. Artisan breads, heirloom vegetables, and homemade garnishes or sauces to put on top of sandwiches is where it’s at. I made a turkey and apple chutney sandwich the other day with sharp cheddar, sweet stone pot mustard, spinach and fresh sprouts. I about died it was so good. In other words, I don’t want to go to the grocery store to pick up food. I don’t want to be an adult today, so I’m declaring tomorrow “Bring out your inner child Friday.” I’ll go work out, and then I’ll go to Wal-Mart to scavenge for something fun to eat. I get paid on the 6th (Woohoo!) and rent is due on the 1st (Aww, boo.) So, I’ve got to make due with my little meager stash of food and lack of oven-safe dishware. (Another thing I need to purchase…)

Cookie Monster

This is how I feel when I get groceries for the week.

On another note, if you’re like me, and I’m guessing you are since you’re reading this, you like gadgets, gizmos, and pretty much anything else that has to do with technology or design. (I’m a sucker for a good design.) If you don’t like gadgets and other fun stuff, well, you’re going to. Especially if you check out The Awesomer. Like movie previews? They got ’em. Video game reviews? Oh, for sure. Neat gadget reviews along with This wonderful website is the home of everything new in regards to messenger bags and clothing to video games and computers. It covers just about everything nerd wise, while stylistically coming off as a nerd-based GQ. If you’re into the more artistic flair, check out NotCot. (Those sites, as well as FoodGawker, are in constant rotation as my home page.)

Tangent time!

Have you ever had the sudden urge to do something that came out of absolutely nowhere? We’re talking thunderbolt out of the clear blue sky here, not just some passing fancy. I was walking to check out the digital I.S display when I looked up to the sky and thought to myself, “Hm. Such a clear blue sky. I’m due for an adventure sometime soon… When exactly was my last one?” to which I promptly began to wonder when exactly my last adventure was. I mean, yes, I’ve had day-trips and excursions, this is true. I just recently drove up to the Adirondacks in New York for a weekend, but I don’t think that counts as an adventure. Trip, vacation, yes. Adventure, no.

So, I began to think. My brain is terrible at the idea of focusing on just ONE subject. Horrible “snowball effect” sort of thing. You know, you think of one thing, it leads to eight different other thoughts, you go with one of those branches, and then that spawns even more ideas. Then, at the end of the day when you lay down in bed and think to yourself, “Oh damn. I did have one really good idea there, what was it…” and you’ve lost either your original thought, or one of the many heads your idea monster has spawned. Anyway, moving past the fact my brain is a whirring torrent of imagination, I began to wonder. “What exactly might my next adventure be?” I mean, I’ve got my book to write, that’s an adventure all on it’s own.” But my brain didn’t seem satisfied with that answer. For some reason, my mind turned to sailing. I’ve never been sailing before in my life, but I’ve had quite a bit of experience with water. Quite a bit of swimming, some boating up in the Adirondacks, but that’s about it. There does seem to be quite a solid standing of sailing in my family history though. It’s been quite a transition doing the whole 8-5 job routine. Work, even before it gets busy, never seems to end. Honestly, I think that Modest Mouse put it best: “Life handed us a paycheck, we said “We worked harder than this!”

Bottom line: I’ve decided that I’m going to make some kind of mobile living arrangement for myself before the time I’m 50. Boat? Maybe. Mobile living area? Quite possibly. Cardboard Box? If you’re making fun of me being an English Major, I’ll drive a pen into your eye socket.

See, I can live in something this small!

And for those who just come for the food porn, next food porn is going to be the coveted Burger Edition! Stay tuned!
