Life and Food Porn.

New year, new priorities. (With a bit ‘o Biscotti.)

I’m in the process reviving my food blog, I’m bringing my journal back to life again, and taking a new position with the college. Quite a number of things I’ve been straightening out are finally coming to fruition. (Hooray!) Let’s see, what is there of note on the homefront… Now that I think about it, not a whole lot, which is incredibly nice. Things are going quite smoothly, and after coming back from a holiday full of visiting around, I’m well due for some nice R&R back in my little apartment. I’m sure I’ll fill you all in in the coming posts. ūüôā

Alright, so with this post, I have to chat a bit about Biscotti. If you’ve ever met me, you’d probably figure out I’m a bit of a tea and scone freak. I love the dense, hard-packed feeling of a scone. However, especially around the holidays, I have to trade in my love of scones for Biscotti.

If you’re curious about recipes, and where I found these particularly delicious examples, feel free to comment or message me, and I’ll make sure you find your dream biscotti.

Stay hungry!

Dim Sum and Then Some.

So, I’m slightly ashamed to say that we haven’t had a serious chat about one of my favorite types of food. Westernized chinese food. No matter how you slice it, “Chinese Food” in America is IN NO WAY to be considered Chinese food. Granted, if you’re going to pull the “Well of course it isn’t authentic Chinese, you’re not in China!” card, you hurt my soul. (Seoul? Oh Odin, you so funny.)

ANYWAY. So, one of my favorite dishes that I tend to drool over are any kind of dumplings. Dim Sum, Pot Stickers, Jaozi, Mochi, Gyoza, whatever you call them, I love, LOVE some dumplings. (Runner up? Pad Thai. Shocking for a guy who loves PB&J? Not so much.) That all being said, here is some delicious dumpling food porn for your Wednesday hunger pangs. As per always, if you want any of the recipes for the following pictures, I’d love to redirect you to their original sites. Enjoy!

Also, spread the love about the site! I love to post food porn I enjoy, but would love some outside input as to what you guys might want to see. Let me know!

Apartment living, Seattle food porn, and Winter Madness

We all knew it was going to happen. One day, you’d walk into my little apartment, and realize, “Oh dear god. Odin’s finally snapped.” Granted, the signs leading up to this point can probably give hints to this conclusion.

  • It could be the fact that¬†my attire, once I get home, has usually consisted of sweatpant shorts, my flannel robe, and gigantic cartoon slippers. (DAMN IT, I’M AN ADULT.)
  • The fact that I have a pet snake. (Which still boggles my mind, seeing as he’s very sweet and snakes are literally the easiest animals to take care of.)
  • The iPod that I have set up in my kitchen seems to play Andrew Bird and Radiohead on an endless loop. Also, my kitchen smells of baked goods. Too many baked goods.

All that aside, onto more storytelling!

In the past couple of weeks from my return from Seattle, I’ve been dreaming of grilling some fish. It’s a capital of fresh fish and produce up there, for certain. In the short time I was there, I headed up to the Pike Place Public Market. If you haven’t been there, and you live up in that corner of North America, shame on you. Seriously though, this place is an absolute trip. We had just about every single kind of food you could possibly think of could suddenly be at your fingertips. My brothers and I had our grubby little paws on just about everything. Cr√™pes, fish, the original Starbucks (!) Hell, I even had duck for the first time. (Hot DAMN was it good too!) All in all, it was pretty much straight up fresh food porn. That being said, let me decorate your brain with some images of what we saw.

While Pike Place was amazing, I think that some of the places that stuck out in my mind the most were actually over in Portland. Two places in particular, one of which was Voodoo Doughnuts. This place came to mind while I was looking up some food porn a while back. I had come across this picture:

Awesome.

What thus happened? I needed to find out where this little guy came from. It wasn’t a kind of “I want to find this thing on my off-time.” sort of deal. No, I dropped everything I was doing and went all crazy on every search engine I could find to figure out the origin of this sugar-coated fetish.

Portland.

I could find it in Portland.

So, to make a long story short, we went there, it was awesome, but they didn’t have any voodoo dolls. What did I have instead you ask?

EL DIABLO

Portland never ceases to amaze with items like this. I mean, come on. How much more hardcore is this doughnut than others? Much, MUCH more. Pentagram in icing, along with chocolate cake doughnut, chocolate icing, red cinnamon sprinkles, and chocolate chips in the middle. After eating this I was practically vibrating from all the sugar I had just consumed. That being said, I visited with my friend Erin Britt at the¬†Rimsky-Korsakoffee House, and if you haven’t gone there to just chill out and catch up with your friends, well, you haven’t lived. It is one of the coolest coffee places I’ve ever been to, and the coffee was so potent, I’m pretty sure that I freaked Erin out with the my horrifying disproportionate ratio of words to breathing. (Something like 16 words a second. I am a terrifying human being.)

That all being said and done, I’d like to think that this would be the calm before the storm. I know you’re curious, so what might the next edition of food porn be?

BREAKFAST EDITION. HOME-COOKED STYLE.

Food Porn: Mystery Edition

If you were to ever look in my fridge, you’d think I drank every single day. I’ve got a special shelf dedicated specifically to my beer collection. I rarely drink, but when I do, I like trying new and different types of beer. That being said,¬†I’m pretty excited for this month. October is one of my absolute favorite times of the year, because all the ridiculous types of sweets come out to greet the masses with their sugary goodness. Pumpkin flavored ale, apple cider, and cinnamon seems to be in abundant supply. While it’s a little too late (Seeing as it’s the end of October.) to publish a food porn simply on beer and pumpkin thinks alone, I’ll be posting more in the next few weeks. (I promise! I’ve been really bad, I know I have. We’ll fix it.)

Captain?

Uh...Erm...

In other news, I recently returned from a trip to Boston. Sam VanFleet and I had decided to run the Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Course, but we didn’t want to fly. Oh, no. That’d ruin the ten hour car drive! And who would want to do a think like that? Not us, apparently. It was a good trip, and I promise, I absolutely swear I’ll fill you all in on the details soon.

So, for next time: the Mysterious Disappearance UNVEILED!

Where did our protagonist Odin go?

What did he do while he was gone?

Did he actually win the bear wrestling competition?

Oh, it’s been far too long since my last food post, so I thought I’d spice up this Thursday with one of my favorite types of food; it’s the Oriental Food post! Sushi, Pad Thai, and Americanized Chinese Take-Out are all fair game! Bring on the wontons!

As per always with my food porn, if you have any suggestions to see any particular kind of food on the blog, make a dinner request! In other words, comment! Also, if you want any of the recipes, throw me your questions through the comments section as well, and I’ll either email you the recipe, or post it as a reply! (Also, if you want to see more detailed pictures of the particular dishes, click on them to enlarge!)

Thanksgiving break is upon us, and as we all know, with Thanksgiving comes a ton off delicious home-cooked meals. This is a holiday literally centered around food, and the consumption of such delectable treats in massive quantities. Almost as to prepare people for hibernation, Thanksgiving usually entails eating so much food, you go straight into a food coma. A nap so nice and peaceful that can only really be remedied with well, more food. In other words, it’s one of my favorite holidays. I thought I’d whip up a couple interesting recipes for the usual holiday treats, so go ahead and drool a little bit. It does your body good. Want to see the food in detail? Click on the images!

Food Frenzy Friday (From beyond the grave!)

We’re back! It’s been far too long since my last post, but I thought I’d revive the blog for a little while longer. This post is a small break from grinding my feet into the ground and cranking out some I.S, which seriously needs to be done. (By the by, I.S has reached critical mass point. Finishing up stories, but now need to develop them all more and more. Also need to work on my critical section. Blergh.) In other words, I decided to pull a post just to escape writing. Hooray!

So, that all being said and done, This Food Frenzy Friday was brought to you by the letter B. Now I wonder, what¬†treat starts with B?¬†Quite frankly, a whole lot of treats start with the letter B, but today¬†it’s Brownies!¬†Enjoy drooling for a couple of hours! (Also, if you want to see more detailed pictures, click on the images!)
